TERMS OF SERVICE
Last updated October 24, 2026
AGREEMENT TO THESE TERMS
British Columbia Mathematics Association ("BCMA," "we," "us," or "our") operates www.bcma.xyz and its related contest portal (together, the "Services"). The Services let participants create accounts, take mathematics contests, submit answers, and view results and leaderboards.
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Services. By using the Services, you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Services. Some contests have additional rules displayed on their contest pages. Those rules apply when you enter the relevant contest.
Students, including students under 13, may use the Services. If you are a minor where you live, ask a parent or guardian to review these Terms with you and help you use the Services. Questions about these Terms may be sent to support@bcma.xyz.
October 13 update: optional Discord account linking, sign-in, reminder DMs, and separately optional participant roles. Discord is optional; existing password/passkey access, and contest eligibility are unchanged. Contest and prize communications use verified email with permission first, otherwise opted-in, tested Discord messages. Users choosing Discord agree to the disclosure below before connecting.

1. OUR SERVICES
BCMA provides educational mathematics materials and online contests. A BCMA mock or practice contest is not an official administration of the competition it resembles unless we expressly say so. Availability, format, dates, permitted materials, grading, and prizes, if any, may differ between contests.
Our Services may be accessed from outside Canada. You are responsible for complying with laws applicable to your use of the Services, subject to rights you cannot waive under applicable law.
2. INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY RIGHTS
Our materials
BCMA or its licensors own the rights in the site design, software, original contest materials, images, text, and logos that they create or provide. Some materials may be owned by other people and used with permission. These Terms do not transfer ownership of any of those materials to you.
Permitted use
You may access the Services and download or print materials made available to you for personal educational use, subject to contest-specific restrictions. Do not sell, republish, or redistribute protected materials without permission from the relevant rights holder. Contact info@bcma.xyz about other uses.
3. ELIGIBILITY AND USER REPRESENTATIONS
By entering a contest, you confirm that the information you provide about your identity and eligibility is accurate and that you will follow the rules displayed for that contest. Individual contests may set grade, age, location, or other eligibility conditions. Where parental or guardian permission is required by applicable law, obtain it before using the Services.
4. USER REGISTRATION AND ACCOUNT SECURITY
Where available, you may create or access your account using Google. Google handles authentication; BCMA remains responsible for the account and contest data it stores. Your Google name initializes your full name, while a separate display alias is used publicly. Google signup asks you to accept or decline contest reminders, organizer messages, and prize notifications by email. This preference does not cover advertising. Existing BCMA accounts must be connected from Account settings.
You can enter open contests as a guest without creating an account, subject to the contest rules and entry window. Guest scores are hidden from participants, excluded from public standings, and ineligible for prizes. Authorized organizers can view guest answers, scores, and contest activity under a randomly assigned guest name. To see and save an eligible result as an official account attempt, create an account or log in using the same browser within 24 hours of finishing. Each attempt has its own deadline; returning to the site does not restart it. Existing account attempts and contest-group restrictions take precedence when claiming results.
Keep the guest browser cookie if you intend to return and claim your attempts. Clearing it, using another browser, or allowing private browsing data to be removed may prevent recovery. After the claim deadline, an unclaimed result remains unofficial and cannot be attached to an account; organizers may retain it for contest administration and review as described in the Privacy Policy.
When creating an account, provide accurate registration details and keep them reasonably current. Protect your password and passkeys, and notify us promptly at support@bcma.xyz if you suspect unauthorized account access. Do not share, sell, or transfer your account or use another person's account.
OPTIONAL DISCORD FEATURES
You may choose to connect a Discord account you control to your BCMA account. Connecting Discord enables sign-in. Permission to receive contest and prize direct messages and permission for participant roles are separate choices. You may disable or disconnect Discord sign-in once another sign-in method is available. Discord is not required to use BCMA. Discord sign-in is available only while enabled by the site owner and permitted by your own account preference. Turning off site-wide Discord sign-in stops new Discord logins without signing out existing sessions. Your existing password and passkeys remain available. Opting into Discord messages permits Discord delivery when a verified email enabled for contest messages is unavailable. Contests requiring a reminder contact method accept verified email or linked, tested Discord messages; password recovery continues to require verified email.
Before connecting, review and expressly agree to these Discord terms and the Discord privacy disclosure. We record the version and time of that agreement. A single Discord messages opt-in and a successful test send (or a previous successful test) permit automatic contest reminders, organizer scratch-work reminders, and prize notifications. Verified email with contest-message permission is used first; otherwise opted-in, tested Discord messages are used. If neither is available, no contest message is sent. Verification and password recovery stay on email. These permissions do not cover advertising or general marketing. Existing reminder-only consent is not treated as consent to additional kinds of DMs. Reviewed organizer/prize previews keep their recorded delivery channel during retries; an opt-out or changed Discord identity prevents pending DMs.
Participant role automation requires its own opt-in. After you submit a configured contest, BCMA may add its participant role in a Discord server you have joined, including if your entry is disqualified. While you remain opted in and the mapping is active, hourly checks may restore missing roles, including after leaving and rejoining. Roles may reveal your participation to server members. This choice does not require reminder messages or enabling server DMs. A role records participation and is not proof of a score, award, or eligibility. Assignment may be delayed by server membership, permissions, role order, outages, or rate limits. You can check status and request your roles on the Discord account page.
Turning automatic roles off, disconnecting, or an organizer removing a mapping stops future grants; existing server roles remain until server staff remove them. Requests already in progress may finish. We record the role-consent version and time separately; existing users are not opted into this feature by a policy update.
Discord is a separate service governed by its Terms of Service and Privacy Policy. You must be at least 13 and meet Discord’s minimum age and permission requirements in your country. Parental permission does not override Discord’s minimum age. Younger participants may continue using BCMA’s other account options.
Protect your Discord account if you enable Discord sign-in. A Discord account can be connected to only one BCMA account at a time. You may turn Discord messages off or disconnect in Account settings. Disconnecting stops future automated sends but cannot recall messages already sent or a request already in progress. Password changes and resets disable Discord sign-in until you expressly re-enable it.
Discord privacy settings, blocking, outages, and rate limits may prevent or delay messages. A successful API send does not establish that you received or read a message. Contest deadlines and submission obligations apply whether or not a reminder arrives. BCMA shows troubleshooting steps when delivery fails. Disconnecting does not delete messages held by Discord; manage those through Discord. BCMA retains organizer/prize communication records with the contest as described in the Privacy Policy. Replies to bot DMs are not monitored; contact support@bcma.xyz for help.
5. CONTEST RULES, SUBMISSIONS, AND RESULTS
Contest instructions
Each contest page states its schedule, duration, materials rules, attempt limits, grading method, and submission instructions. Those displayed rules govern that contest. Your work must be your own, and answers must reach the server within the applicable time limit to count. Text saved only as a draft on your device may not be received by BCMA.
Integrity measures
The portal records contest activity for organizer review as described in our Privacy Policy. BCMA may investigate suspected violations or correct a score, answer key, ranking, or eligibility decision.
Disqualification and review
Cheating, using unauthorized assistance or prohibited materials, sharing questions or answers before the contest closes, impersonating another contestant, or using multiple accounts to bypass contest restrictions may result in disqualification. Permitted materials and any exceptions to these rules are specified in the contest instructions.
Organizers will disqualify an entry for misconduct only after reviewing the available evidence and finding strong evidence that a contest rule was violated. Suspicion, a high automated risk score, or recorded page activity alone is not enough to establish misconduct. Leaving the contest page does not automatically cause disqualification. Organizers consider the context, including possible technical errors and innocent explanations. Disqualification and restoration decisions include a recorded reason. BCMA may appoint managers for particular contest groups; managers cannot participate in contests within the groups they manage.
If you believe a disqualification decision is mistaken, email support@bcma.xyz with the contest name and an explanation so organizers can review it.
Results and prizes
Contest awards are limited to pre-college participants who have not yet begun college or university. Organizers confirm this eligibility when a prize is claimed. Guest attempts are ineligible for contest awards and prize draws until claimed by an account within their 24-hour claim window. Prize draws do not require pre-college status: each account participant who is not disqualified receives at most one entry within the selected contest or group. A group draw excludes participants disqualified in any contest in that group. Prize communications and redemption details require either a verified account email with contest messages enabled or a linked, tested Discord account with messages enabled. Contests requiring reminders accept either contact method. Contact verification does not by itself establish legal identity, age, or prize eligibility. Claims are coordinated with the BCMA team through Discord. Use an email address you control, and follow the published claim instructions.
Results may be preliminary until BCMA completes review. Any prize or award is subject to the particular contest's published eligibility and prize rules. BCMA may withhold a result or prize while it investigates a suspected rule violation. We will not change a completed contest's rules retroactively in a way that removes rights protected by law.
6. PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
You must not use the Services to:
- cheat in a contest, including using prohibited outside assistance or resources, sharing or obtaining answers during a contest, impersonating another participant, or using multiple accounts to gain an advantage;
- evade contest access controls, interfere with grading, or attempt to obtain hidden questions or answer keys;
- misrepresent your identity or eligibility, or access another person's account without permission;
- probe, disrupt, overload, or introduce malicious code into the Services;
- collect other users' personal information without authorization; or
- use the Services in a way that violates applicable law or another person's rights.
7. USER ANSWERS AND OTHER CONTENT
Your contest answers are submitted to BCMA for grading and administration; they are not a public posting feature. You retain any rights you have in original work you submit. You give BCMA a limited permission to store, process, review, grade, and use that work as reasonably needed to operate contests, investigate integrity concerns, provide results, and meet legal obligations. This permission does not authorize BCMA to sell your answers or use them in sponsor advertising.
When you contact us with feedback or suggestions, you allow us to consider and use that feedback to improve the Services. This does not transfer ownership of your contest work.
8. THIRD-PARTY WEBSITES AND SPONSORS
Our Sponsors page may display sponsor names, logos, descriptions, and links. These are sponsor acknowledgements. Current listings are served by BCMA; they do not load sponsor advertising scripts or tracking pixels. Following a sponsor link takes you to a site governed by that third party's own terms and privacy practices. BCMA is not responsible for the content or transactions on outside sites.
9. SERVICES MANAGEMENT
BCMA may monitor use of the Services to operate contests, protect accounts, address technical problems, and enforce these Terms. We may restrict access or remove content when reasonably necessary to protect the Services, participants, or others. We may contact affected users and review a disputed decision where appropriate.
10. PRIVACY AND HOSTING
Our Privacy Policy and Cookie Policy describe how we handle information. When enabled, Cloudflare Web Analytics provides aggregate website traffic and referral reports as described in the website analytics disclosure. These reports do not determine contest scores or eligibility. BCMA is based in Canada, but its service providers are not confined to Canada. Cloudflare currently reports the account and contest database in Western North America and the problem-image bucket in Asia-Pacific. Those regional labels do not identify exact hosting countries. We do not claim that all information stays in Canada, the United States, or Malaysia.
11. COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT NOTICES
If you believe material available through the Services infringes copyright you own or control, contact support@bcma.xyz. Identify the protected work, the BCMA page or file involved, your contact information, and why you believe the use is unauthorized. We will review the notice and take appropriate steps. This process does not limit rights or remedies available under applicable law.
12. TERM AND TERMINATION
These Terms apply while you use the Services. You may stop using the Services at any time. BCMA may suspend or close an account for a material breach of these Terms, a contest integrity issue, a security concern, or as otherwise required by law. Contest records may be retained under the Privacy Policy after access ends. Contact us if you believe your account was restricted in error.
13. MODIFICATIONS AND INTERRUPTIONS
We may update features, correct content, or suspend the Services for maintenance or security. We cannot promise uninterrupted availability. If we materially change these Terms, we will update the date above and provide clear notice to affected users and any additional notice required by law. Where renewed agreement or consent is required, we will request it before applying the relevant change; merely updating a date does not record your agreement. Changes confined to an optional feature may be acknowledged when you choose that feature. A revised version applies from its stated effective date, subject to applicable law and any contest rules already in force.
14. GOVERNING LAW AND DISPUTES
These Terms are governed by the laws of British Columbia and applicable federal laws of Canada, except where mandatory law gives you different protections. Please email support@bcma.xyz so we can try to resolve a concern informally. This request is voluntary: these Terms do not require arbitration, waive class proceedings, or prevent either party from going to a court with jurisdiction.
15. CORRECTIONS
Site content and contest information may contain mistakes. We may correct errors in descriptions, dates, answer keys, scores, and other information. If a correction materially affects an active contest, BCMA will consider the effect on participants and any published contest rules.
16. DISCLAIMER
The Services and educational materials are provided as available. BCMA makes reasonable efforts to keep contest information accurate, but cannot guarantee that the Services will always be uninterrupted, free of errors, or suitable for every purpose. Nothing in these Terms excludes any warranty or right that cannot lawfully be excluded.
17. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY
These Terms do not set a fixed dollar cap on BCMA's liability or cap it at amounts paid by users. Any responsibility for loss or damage will be determined under applicable law. Nothing in these Terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited, including rights that apply to consumers or minors.
18. USER DATA
We store account, contest, and submission records to operate the Services as described in our Privacy Policy. Local drafts on your device are different from server submissions; confirm that a server save succeeded before relying on it. If a technical problem affects a contest, contact us with the contest name and relevant details so we can investigate.
19. ELECTRONIC COMMUNICATIONS
BCMA may send account, security, and contest notices electronically, including by email or through the Services. Keep your contact information current so you can receive them. Electronic communication does not remove any right to a different form of notice where the law requires one.
20. MISCELLANEOUS
If a provision of these Terms cannot be enforced, the remaining provisions continue to apply to the extent allowed by law. BCMA's delay in enforcing a provision does not by itself waive it. These Terms, the Privacy Policy, and contest-specific rules describe the applicable relationship between you and BCMA concerning the Services; mandatory legal rights continue to apply.
